I want to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. Modelcollect is a relative newcomer to the model world but has established a fabulous reputation for innovation and quality. They initially produced some small scale finished models and later branched out into kits and larger scales. Luckily for us, they have also produced some unique subjects never available before. This interesting kit falls into that category. The MAN Category 1 8×8 High-Mobility Off-Road Truck was designed during the Cold War years by the Germans and her allies to haul every kind of military load imaginable. The MAN M1001 was a Category 2 Truck Tractor that was used by the US Army as the prime mover for the Pershing II nuclear missile erector launcher system in Europe. The Pershing II served until the early 1990s when the ballistic missile was negotiated out of existence by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. I found a handful of listings for this kit on eBay (mostly from Europe), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have it in stock and can reliably ship this kit to you very quickly. Here is what I have learned about this very modern kit: The Modelcollect website has a page that shows the box art and the 16-page instruction set and painting guide. They also show eleven images of an assembled, unpainted model in Transport and Launch modes. This makes me believe that this kit can be assembled either way, but the instructions do not show the Launch Mode. From other sources, I have found the following information about their kit: The M1001 was used by the US Army as the prime mover for the Pershing II nuclear missile. The tractor was configured with a fifth wheel to tow the erector launcher, an Atlas Maschinen GmbH 8-ton crane for handling missile components and a 30 kW generator to power the erector launcher. The Pershing II Weapon System was a solid-fueled two-stage medium-range ballistic missile designed and built to replace the Pershing 1a Field Artillery Missile System as the United States Army’s primary nuclear-capable theater-level weapon. · 1/72 scale model kit of the M1001 Tractor and Pershing II EL Trailer. · The outriggers can be built in the extended or retracted position.· Pershing II missile can be displayed in vertical position on the trailer.· Chassis details and engine are intricately recreated.· Photo-etch fret and waterslide decals are provided. Scalemates.com has a page for this kit, showing it is a brand-new 2017 tooling that has been the basis of over a dozen subsequent releases. not show this kit, although they have great pages on the preceding versions and related kits. Volker Helms posted an extensive In-Box Review on the German-language ipmsdeutschland.de site. He presents an interesting history and shows about two dozen high resolution photos of the kit contents. He praises the quality of the moldings and summarizes with: “A great kit of the Pershing II including transport and starting vehicle from Modelcollect in 1/72. It’s a pity that China hasn’t thought of suitable US Army license plates for the towing vehicle. Due to the high number of parts, this kit is only recommended for advanced model builders.” There is a quick (34 second) Unboxing Video on YouTube by Модельная Лавка that shows everything laid out before giving glimpses of the instructions, the sprues, truck cab, PE frets, rubber tires and decals with a musical accompaniment. There are Russian titles and text, but no speaking, so it is a convenient way to get a look inside the box. This kit is in a nice, sturdy box about 13” x 9.5” x 2.5”, decorated with the big truck preparing to launch the Pershing II missile. As you can see from the pictures, the package is pristine and still sealed with tape strips (these were never shrink wrapped from the factory), so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete injection molded plastic model kit with detailed grey and clear plastic parts, four rubber tires, two frets of photo etched metal parts, two sheets of decals and a full color instruction sheet and painting guide to build a M1001 MAN Tractor with Pershing II missile erection launcher. It requires cement and paint to complete as shown. I use eBay Managed Payments, but I no longer ship internationally. For the Builders, there are probably better (at least cheaper) ways to add to your project lists than buying from me, but you know you are getting top quality. For Collectors, my goal is to save you a few bucks over the competition for the same item in factory sealed and collectible (or resellable) condition.
